To One Account or Other – Muslin and Magic in the Regency Era

James Ashley

On Sunday, April 13, 2014, the wonderful Mr. James Ashley treated an audience of 12 with a talk entitled “To One Account or Other – Muslin and Magic in the Regency Era” at the Mustang Library in Scottsdale. James discussed the use of muslin throughout the 18th and 19th centuries in theater for stage backdrops and cycloramas, in the production of magic tricks, and in trick spirit photography. A slide show presentation was given that included many historical pictures, paintings, and photographs that incorporated the use of the fabric. Audience members were also lucky enough to have been thoroughly deceived by Mr. James with his own demonstration of a few magic tricks!
